Make it Work
They told me to say why my high school was different. Here we go...
Beech High School in Hendersonville,
Tennessee is the interesting place that I have called home for the past four
years of my life. On paper, we look like
a pretty average high school – but if you spend some time there you will see
that we are anything but average.
My school
has the uncanny ability to “make it work.” By “make it work,” I mean that my school
takes the little that we have and creates something wonderful with it. If the Beta club I am in at Beech needs money
to go to the national convention we “make it work” by holding car washes and
bake sales until we raise enough money so that every member can go. When the theater department has no money, as
usual, we “make it work” by recycling old sets and costumes instead of making
new ones. When Melodic Impact, Beech’s
show choir that I am a member of, needs a set for our competition show we “make
it work” by building it ourselves. If
anyone in the community is having trouble we even help them “make it
work.” For example, one of the school’s
best teacher’s houses burned down a few years ago. During the choir coffee
shop, we took up donations for her to be able to make it through while her
house was being rebuilt. We also help
people around the world “make it work.”
Beech’s Interact club that I am a member of holds an international
service project every year to help a charity that is making a difference around
the world. This year we raised money for
Global One Foundation by having a golf tournament in our community.
Beech High
School may not be the richest, or have the highest test scores, or the best
football team, or the best auditorium, or the cleanest bathrooms, but we make
it work with what we have. I loved my
time at Beech High School because my time there thought me to make it work in
my everyday life.
